A little about me…

Hey Everyone,

As most of you know I am defiantly not a writer. I am more straight to the point with a few words or less. So I am hoping this blog can unleash some of my hidden writing talents! LOL

A little about me…

A little over a year and a half ago I got engaged to my prince charming. We are getting married this year… October 24th! Almost as soon as we got engaged we started to plan for our big day. We knew at the time the earlier we started the better deals we would get and the less we would have to do a few months before our wedding. So we started booking our photographer, hall, DJ and cake lady, and then we went to visit a floral shop. Boy was I shocked when she gave us a quote of over $1000.00 just for a few bouquets and boutonnieres. We thought that was a little much for flowers that would be dead before we even got to our reception. I love flowers and the thought of not getting to really enjoy them and spend all that money was just making me nauseated.

I never thought about silk flowers for my wedding prior to going to a florist. I just always assumed that real flowers were the way to go for weddings, and that silk flowers were just good for arrangements inside your home.

Years prior I had always made Christmas decorations with silk flowers. Wreaths, centerpieces, and Christmas tree ornaments. The thought of entering the wedding industry with silks never really occurred to me. Then one day I decided to do some research on wedding flowers and signed up for some classes! When I made my first set of wedding flowers (which I actually made for my own wedding) I decided to advertise with it and it sold within a week of posting it online. Then from there I decided to experiment a little bit more. Posted more pictures online the ended up selling that set. So from there came Forever Flowers by Val. I have been doing flowers for weddings for a little over a year, and I absolutely love it. I love meeting new people. I love making new creations and experimenting with new ideas!

Of course there are articles out there that will tell you that using silk flowers for a wedding is so tacky. And of course there are articles out there that will tell you using real flowers is like flushing your money down the toilet. It all comes down to your preference. What you want!

I use only silk flowers that look real. None of that cheap dollar store stuff! My arrangements look real, and I can even scent them to smell real. And nine times out of ten your guests will never know.

The really awesome thing about using silks for your wedding is that you get to keep your bouquet for EVER! It’s not going to die! Your bridesmaids get to keep theirs and use it as centerpieces. Everyone will have a memento from your special day, and the best part is the flowers will last FOREVER, just like your marriage!
