Why spend all that money on a dress to cover it up by and overly large bouquet? Depending on your height and size your bouquet should be no bigger than 12” round. ESPECIALLY if you have a beautiful dress with lots of detail! The standard size that I do the most of is a 10” bouquet.

How you hold your bouquet makes all the difference. The first thing you need to do is find the front of your bouquet. That would be where the pins or embellishments are. For round bouquets, you should hold the bouquet right at the base of where the flowers come together, right where your ribbon starts. You should not be holding the bouquet at the very bottom of the stems.

You also want to make sure your beautiful smile is seen along with the beautiful details on the bodice of your dress, so you want to hold your bouquet down by your belly button, not up to your chest. Do not bend your arms. Your arms should rest down in front of you to hold your bouquet.
Remember to smile, put your shoulders back, hold your bouquet correctly and you will look fabulous walking down the aisle.

Silk flowers of yesterday vs. Silk flowers of today http://foreverflowersbyval.com/blog/2012/01/23/silk-flowers-of-yesterday-vs-silk-flowers-of-today/ http://foreverflowersbyval.com/blog/2012/01/23/silk-flowers-of-yesterday-vs-silk-flowers-of-today/#comments Mon, 23 Jan 2012 05:09:25 +0000 Administrator http://foreverflowersbyval.com/blog/?p=32 I know what some of you are thinking… Silk flowers, for a wedding… Yuck!
Most likely the image that is stuck in your head is the ugly dusty silk floral centerpieces that your grandma had her dining room table, right? Or those ugly silk flowers that you see in that discount department store, right?

Silk flowers have come a long way since grandma’s ugly dining room centerpiece. The quality has substantially improved over the years. I actually prefer the term “artificial”. There are even real touch flowers now, these are artificial but they even feel like they are real. Have you ever felt a real calla lily? The flower kind of feels rubbery. That’s exactly the way the real touch flowers feel. 

I have had so many people tell me my arrangements look real. Brides tell me their guests didn’t even know the difference. That’s my goal, to make my arrangements look real.

Sometimes silk flowers can be a little bit cheaper than fresh, and sometimes not. But one thing is for sure they will last you forever!

A white bouquet tantrum fit… http://foreverflowersbyval.com/blog/2012/01/19/a-white-bouquet-tantrum-fit/ http://foreverflowersbyval.com/blog/2012/01/19/a-white-bouquet-tantrum-fit/#comments Thu, 19 Jan 2012 06:59:57 +0000 Administrator http://foreverflowersbyval.com/blog/?p=27 Has anyone else noticed the white wedding bouquet madness with these celebrity weddings?!?

I call it madness because it is driving me nuts! WHY? Because I love to do colorful bouquets! But that’s just me!

Kate Middleton’s Royal Wedding Bouquet- WHITE!

Ivanka Trump’s bouquet- WHITE!

Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott bouquet- WHITE!

Kim Kardashion’s bouquet, guess what… it was white! Wait, can we really count this one? Wasn’t she only married for 72 hours… or wait, maybe it was 72 days. Is there a difference?

Really this list could go on for pages…

Of course the all-white bouquet is beautiful, sophisticated and timeless, but I am just not a fan of EVERYONE doing an all-white bouquet. I like to see some color!

The fact is that there really are no rules as to what color flowers you have to have, if you should have all white, or if you should mix up the color. I have seen it done every which way possible and the end result is always the same. It is always beautiful.

While I will continue to always have a comment about a celebrity and their surprisingly all white bouquet (NOT), I secretly love how beautiful their photos look, and yours will too!

How to choose your wedding flowers http://foreverflowersbyval.com/blog/2011/07/08/how-to-choose-your-wedding-flowers/ http://foreverflowersbyval.com/blog/2011/07/08/how-to-choose-your-wedding-flowers/#comments Fri, 08 Jul 2011 12:16:38 +0000 Administrator http://foreverflowersbyval.com/blog/?p=25 Often times when brides contact me about starting a quote for them they are often baffled about how to go about choosing their wedding flowers. They don’t know where to start, what types of flowers will complement themselves and their themes and a lot of them dare to be different and don’t want to choose the same types of flowers and styles that are the most popular choices.

Here’s what I recommend. Start with your favorite flower and build from there. If you do not have a favorite flower, what was the first bouquet of flowers your fiancé ever bought you?

The most popular trend right now that I am seeing for this year (2011) is blue dresses, accented with bright colors like bright yellow, bright pinks, and bright oranges. Daisy’s and roses are always great elegant choices, but don’t forget orchids, lilies, and dahlias.

My opinion… http://foreverflowersbyval.com/blog/2011/07/08/my-opinion/ http://foreverflowersbyval.com/blog/2011/07/08/my-opinion/#comments Fri, 08 Jul 2011 12:15:13 +0000 Administrator http://foreverflowersbyval.com/blog/?p=22 Ever feel ripped off? Like when you go to the movies to see a movie that has been totally all hyped up by the commercials, then when you go see it you are very disappointed and feel like they left off the ending. I feel that for the last seven weeks I have been watching the longest lifetime network movie ever! I have watched the Casey Anthony trial for the last seven weeks religiously. I don’t know how I let myself get roped into it but I wish I hadn’t.

When I first started watching, the very first day of the trail I really had no idea what the story was. I hadn’t really followed the case much. Well, that day when opening statements started I actually felt like she could be innocent. I feel sorry for her and how her family treated her. Well as the case went on and I watched I was ever more convinced she was guilty. Not 1st degree murder, I couldn’t really find any premeditation (I could go on) but she was defiantly guilty of having something to do with her child’s death.

When Casey decided not to take the stand I was very disappointed. I was looking for answers to many questions and she was the only one that could provide them. So that was the first day I felt ripped on, when it was said she wasn’t going to take the stand.
When the closing statements came I was ever more so convinced there was no way the jury would acquit her. BUT SHOCKER! THEY DID! Of course at first I was angry and ready to get on the first flight to Orlando, but a day went by and I became depressed over the verdict. I felt like I had just been ripped off from a satisfying and well deserved ending.
Seeing the protesting going on in Orlando and the internet is crazy. But in a sense we all feel ripped off… in days the anger will subside and we’ll all move on. But being ripped off from an ending of justice just makes us angry.

There were just so many things that went wrong during this case, so many questions unanswered and most of us just want answers. I believe that’s the cause of everyone’s anger.
Of course, not to ever forget the little girl in the middle of the mess. Caylee is in a better place now. Her mother never deserved her. I just was hoping for a better ending.
Just sayin…

An update! http://foreverflowersbyval.com/blog/2010/12/17/an-update/ http://foreverflowersbyval.com/blog/2010/12/17/an-update/#comments Fri, 17 Dec 2010 03:21:05 +0000 Administrator http://foreverflowersbyval.com/blog/?p=20 Well December has been way busier than expected. Last December I sat around twiddling my fingers, so it was quite a surprise when I started to get slammed earlier in this month. This year has been very good. Slow at times, but all it all wasn’t too bad. I am definitely looking forward to 2011! Things are already filling up for January. Last year I was swamped in January too. All the spring brides get a head start after the New Year. Which makes it super nice for me since spring is still very much a popular time to get married and when all the orders come in early, then I am not swamped when the spring gets here and can get out and enjoy the nice weather!

For 2011 lots of changes are going to be taking shape. For one, I am expanding into event planning, which is going to be super fun and exciting. I will also be offering other custom made bridal accessories and the way ordering is done will be changed. Basically to insure everything continues to run smoothly.

But most importantly I am graduating from college! Finally will be moving closer to following my dream of working for the CIA or the FBI! So you better watch out!

In closing I want to thank all of my brides/ customers from this year. Everyone has been so great to work with! I am able to enjoy what I do because of the wonderful brides/ customers that God gives me! Thanks!

Do you have flower allergies? http://foreverflowersbyval.com/blog/2010/09/20/do-you-have-flower-allergies/ http://foreverflowersbyval.com/blog/2010/09/20/do-you-have-flower-allergies/#comments Mon, 20 Sep 2010 20:30:09 +0000 Administrator http://foreverflowersbyval.com/blog/?p=17 Did you know…?

Top three worst flowers for people with allergies are…
Chrysanthemums, daisies, and sunflowers.

If you have a lot of family and friends who suffer from allergies coming to your wedding you make want to take this into consideration. Flowers that are very fragrant will are a big culprit for triggering allergies.

To avoid all of this you may want to consider using artificial flowers.

Own it! Love it! Enjoy it! http://foreverflowersbyval.com/blog/2010/09/09/own-it-love-it-enjoy-it/ http://foreverflowersbyval.com/blog/2010/09/09/own-it-love-it-enjoy-it/#comments Thu, 09 Sep 2010 00:39:35 +0000 Administrator http://foreverflowersbyval.com/blog/?p=14 Okay so, everyone is bound to have a hater or two. Haters are jealous people. Chances are, during the planning of your wedding someone will be jealous of all the attention you are getting. I guess jealousy is a normal thing, but no bride or groom should be expected to deal with other family members or friends acting in such a rude manner towards them during what should be the most exciting part of their lives. A grand wedding is a once in a lifetime experience and everything leading up to that experience should go as smoothly and as perfectly as possible. Unfortunately that doesn’t always happen.

Some grooms especially frown at the thought of starting to plan the wedding. I don’t get it! Why? The process of planning a wedding should be fun and exciting. When my husband and I were planning our wedding we learned a lot about each other’s likes and dislikes about certain details and what really mattered to one another. A couple grows closer as they start to plan a wedding. One of the biggest hurdles in planning a wedding is the financial aspect of it. Working with each other and understanding your wedding budget can reduce the cause of a great strain on your relationship and the fact that a couple can work through the budget and understand it together only makes their relationship that much stronger. So with all the trials and tribunes a couple has to go through during the planning process you would think that friends and family members would set back and do as the bride and groom wishes. Yeah, right. Only in a perfect world and we definitely don’t live in one of those.

So far this year I have had the opportunity to work with some really great girls. I have developed a relationship with many of my customers, so once in a while they will ask me my opinion on certain situations. Who pays for what? Who walks in the ceremony? Reception etiquette questions, choice of flowers and their flower meanings. I get asked all sorts of things and my advice is always “What do YOU want? What’s your vision?” Of course family members will always give you their two cents but what it really comes down to is it’s your day! Plan it how you want. Decorate how you want. Invite who you want. Trust your instincts. It’s your day and a reflection of who you are. Own it! Love it! Enjoy it! And to those people who become jealous of you… the heck with them!

Hello Again! http://foreverflowersbyval.com/blog/2010/07/15/hello-again/ http://foreverflowersbyval.com/blog/2010/07/15/hello-again/#comments Thu, 15 Jul 2010 17:23:27 +0000 Administrator http://foreverflowersbyval.com/blog/?p=11 Well, here we are we are over half way through 2010. Where has the time gone? I know I have been super busy with weddings, school and family functions it’s hard for me to realize soon it will be August and the leaves will be falling soon. I am not going to mention the other four letter word that starts with an “s” and ends with a “w”, because I would like to think that Mother Nature will forget about Ohio during this winter and spare us!

I haven’t updated this blog for a really long time, in fact probably not since I started up my website, which has been over a year ago. I was talking with someone the other day who said to me “you should write a blog and share with people your experiences about being new and working in the wedding industry and about your experiences working with bridezillas”. I had completely forgot that I already had a blog going, so I have decided to get it updated and let everyone know what has been going on with me and my business.

I am actually on break from school for the next couple weeks. A break that is well needed. I just wish I could go somewhere tropical for the time because I need a vacation, but no can do I have work to do. Sometimes I wish I was 5 years old again when all I had to worry about was if it was going to rain and if I would get to go outside and play. Ohhh the joys of adulthood. =)

I am working towards my Masters Degree in Criminal Justice. I actually love learning and going to school. It’s exciting to learn about new things especially in a field that really interests me. I am proud to say that I have maintained a 4.0! =) Yay, for me. Thank you very much, no applause needed!
The flower business is going great! I have gotten the chance to work with some great brides this year so far and I am looking forward to working with the brides I have already lined up for the rest of this year and 2011! I actually have a surprise for some of you. I am going to go into doing some event planning and design. I am really excited about it. It’s something I have been working on, on and off over the past 6 months. I have actually helped 3 friends of mine finish up the details to their weddings by helping out with communication with vendors as well as helping them out on their wedding day to get details in order and people their places. I had a lot of fun doing it and look forward to more in the future. For those of you who are in panic mode because you were planning on using me as your florist for your upcoming wedding and event, don’t panic! I am still going to do the flowers because after all that is my therapy and my escape from everyday drama!

As far as working with bridezillias (like the show), I am happy to say that I have not had that experience yet and would like to keep it that way. LOL Planning a wedding is a very stressful time. So I can sort of understand how some brides do react in a “bridezilla manner”. I was close to becoming a bridezilla when I was planning my wedding because of certain people butting their noses into my wedding plans.

Well that’s it for today, the light on my keyboard is flashing because the battery is about to die. So off to the store I go for batteries. LOL
